Chlorine Dioxide Medical Device Sterilization: Residual Toxicity Testing
December 2, 2025
Ethylene oxide (EtO), a commonly used sterilant for medical devices, is a known carcinogen that leaves carcino- genic residuals. Recent regulatory changes encourage medical device manufacturers to consider non-carcinogenic sterilants, including chlorine dioxide (ClO2) sterilization.

Residual Testing on a Medical Device
November 10, 2021
Since the use of chlorine dioxide to sterilize medical devices is fairly new, the acceptable levels of ClO2 residue left on medical devices after the sterilization process has never been defined. The following study was carried out in order to determine how much (if any) ClO2 residue is present subsequent to a ClO2 sterilization cycle.
